Born in Barcelona-Venezuela in 1962. Photographer, writer and engineer. He is a published author of poetry and short stories in Spanish. He was a columnist and editor for newspapers. In 2007 he migrated to USA due the economic and political situation in his country. Since 2010 he started to take photography courses as he found it as an universal media of expression. In 2015 he obtained a Camera Based Certificate from the Houston Centre for Photography (HCP). He participated in several collective art exhibitions in Katy, Texas and he was selected by Foto Fest Houston in 2016 to participate in a solo exhibition in Katy, TX.
Artist Statement – Why Photography?
I always loved photography. I found something magic in the frozen black and white images I looked during my childhood and teenage. There was something beyond reality trying to be language or music to be understandable even in old sepia family portraits. But for some time photography was far from me because it was an expensive media. During my whole life I have been close to arts. Theatre, puppets, drawings, paintings were the preludes to finally land on writing for a long time, mainly in poetry and short stories. Some years ago I bought my first SLR camera. But I realized there is huge difference between to have a good camera and be a photographer. So, I took seriously photography classes to acquire the techniques, to kwon about the relationship with art and the way to express in words what we want to express with images. But even beyond all the courses photography is still far if we do not pursue our own way of expression. So, I have been trying to find my own way and I have been enjoying it for a while.
Biografía
Nació en Barcelona-Venezuela en 1962. Fotógrafo, escritor e ingeniero. Autor con publicaciones de poesía y cuentos en español. Fue columnista y editor de publicaciones semanales. En el año 2007 migra a los Estados Unidos debido a la situación económica y política de su país. Desde el 2010 comienza a tomar clases de fotografía debido a que la consideraba como un lenguaje de expresión universal. En el 2015 obtiene su Certificado de Fotógrafo por el Houston Center for Photography. Ha participado en diversas exposiciones colectivas en Katy, Texas y seleccionado por el Fotofest de Houston del 2016 para una exposición individual en Katy, Tx.
¿Por que fotografía?
Siempre admiré la fotografía. Encontraba en ella algo mágico en las imágenes congeladas, en blanco y negro, que observaba en mi niñez y en mi temprana juventud. Había en ellas algo mas allá de la realidad que buscaba ser lenguaje o música para ser entendidas. Por algún, o mejor dicho, por un largo tiempo estuvo lejos de mi por ser un medio costoso. Durante toda mi vida he estado cerca de las artes. Teatro, títeres, dibujos, pintura, fueron el preludio para finalmente aterrizar en la escritura, principalmente en la poesía y en los cuentos. Hace algunos años adquirí mi primera cámara SLR . Pero pude darme cuenta que existe una enorme diferencia entre tener una buena cámara y ser un fotógrafo. Así que decidí seriamente tomar clases de fotografía para adquirir las técnicas, descubrir la relación con el arte y la manera de expresar con palabras lo que uno quiere mostrar en las imágenes . Pero, mas allá de los cursos la fotografía esta aun lejos si no se persigue una manera propia de expresión. Así que aun ando en esa manera individual de expresarme a través de la fotografía y mientras tanto disfruto al hacerlo.
